Egads ~ Last night I was trying out some ideas for Speeding Up my Party CARICATURES ~ This is what my Office looked like when I woke up this morning.

You might wonder why I am posting this scribbled Shopping List on my CARICATURE Website. It's to remind myself how Easy it is to draw a Good CARICATURE.
I drew it while waiting for the clerk in the Seafood Department to prepare the Porgy Fish I had chosen for dinner. No unused paper to entertain myself. Just a dried up leftover marker. No posing.
Just the answers. Easy. It's from this Point that I can create any type of Finished Product. Quick Cacs? Next! Or Color it in and add a little Shading? Perhaps execute it with more graceful Lines. Or add a border? A body/hobby? A big Fish!
Or I could even take this idea through a major production in the Studio. I could model it with Pastels. Or alla prima Oil Painting. Or a layered Oil Painting. I could put him in a Scene. And Office. A Desk. A Library. Or more appropriately ~ a Brightly Colored Fish Market!
But first it has to Start Here. With the Vision. The CARICATURE.

It's a good idea to practice before a gig if you haven't drawn Party Caricatures in over a Week. Here are my practices ~ done before going to a 40th Surprise Party. I feel confident now. Psyched. And looking forward to it!

I've been studying how to Caricature the skin around the eyes. Perhaps called the epicanthus?
Even though this man doesn't have huge eyes, I felt compelled to use his eyes for figuring it out. Because his eyes feel sooo compelling.
Here are my attempts. After my first attempt, I felt thrilled with my new awareness of how everyone's eyelids actually Cover the sides of the eyeballs ~in this case actually looking almost glued together for an extra 1/4 inch at each eye-corner........
and once i managed to channel my own exaggeration techniques, i came up with the 2nd picture. This feels like a turning point for me. A day to note. Not actually needed for drawing this man, but the start of a new tool in my brain-kit. For when I Want to use it.
After that, I applied my insights (hahaha ~ a funny punny) ~ I applied my insights to the 2nd man here. I feel like I was successful in using my new insight in my linework for a quick Party Caricature. Yes!
